Prädikativpronomen

Prädikativpronomen, also known as predicate pronouns, are a grammatical concept primarily found in some Romance languages like Spanish and Italian. They function as a form of pronoun that completes the meaning of a verb, similar to how a predicate adjective or predicate noun completes the meaning of a linking verb. In essence, they refer back to a noun or pronoun that is the subject of the sentence, but they appear after the verb.

The use of prädikativpronomen is often tied to specific verbs, particularly those indicating a state of being, identity, or transformation. For instance, in Spanish, the verbs "ser" and "estar" (both meaning "to be") are commonly followed by prädikativpronomen when referring to the subject. If the subject is plural, the prädikativpronomen must also be plural to agree in number. Similarly, verbs like "parecer" (to seem) can also take prädikativpronomen.
