Postileal

Postileal is an anatomical and medical term used to describe a location situated after the ileum, i.e., distal to the ileocecal valve. The word combines the prefix post- meaning after with ileal, referencing the ileum, the final portion of the small intestine. In practice, postileal is employed to specify structures, conditions, or surgical segments that lie beyond the ileum within the gastrointestinal tract.

In clinical usage, postileal descriptions are common in surgical, radiological, and anatomical contexts to distinguish regions beyond the ileocecal valve from those within or proximal to the ileum. This can apply to parts of the colon (such as the cecum and downstream segments) and, depending on the context, may extend to adjacent regions described in relation to the overall digestive tract.
