PostQuranic
Post-Quranic refers to the period and intellectual developments that occurred after the compilation and canonization of the Quran. While the Quran itself was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad over a period of about 23 years, its final compilation and arrangement into the text we have today is often considered the endpoint of the "Quranic" era in a strict sense. The post-Quranic period encompasses everything that followed, including the interpretation, commentary (tafsir), and codification of Islamic law (fiqh) based on the Quran, as well as the development of Hadith literature, theological discourse, and philosophical inquiry within Islam. This era saw the establishment of Islamic civilization and its diverse intellectual traditions. Scholars began to engage deeply with the Quranic text, seeking to understand its meanings, extract rulings, and apply its principles to a rapidly expanding world. The foundations laid during this post-Quranic period have profoundly shaped the trajectory of Islamic thought and practice for over fourteen centuries.
