Possessivních

Possessivních is a grammatical form in Czech, not a standalone lexical item. It is the inflected plural form of the adjective possesivní, which means possessive. The term is used in linguistic descriptions to refer to the way possessive adjectives decline when they modify nouns in different cases and numbers. In Czech, possessive adjectives function like other adjectives: they agree with the noun in gender, number and case, and possessivní is declined accordingly. The ending -ních is characteristic of certain plural forms, most commonly genitive plural and accusative plural, depending on the noun and its grammatical role in the sentence.

In practice, possessivní describes belonging or possession and can modify nouns directly or participate in possessive constructions alongside possessive pronouns. The form possessivních appears in phrases where a plural noun is in a case that requires a genitive or accusative ending, marking its grammatical relationship to the possessor. As with other Czech adjectives, possessivní and its inflected forms (such as possessivního, possessivní, possessivními, possessivních, etc.) follow standard declension patterns and thus vary with gender, number and case.

The distinction between possessivní forms and independent possessive pronouns (such as můj, tvůj, jeho) lies in syntactic function. Possessivní forms act as adjectives inside noun phrases, while possessive pronouns stand alone as substitutes for nouns. In linguistic reference, possessivních is cited as an example of the plural genitive/accusative inflection of the possessive adjective in Czech.
