Portúgal, officially the Portuguese Republic, is a country located in southwestern Europe, occupying the westernmost part of the Iberian Peninsula. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south, and by Spain to the north and east. The country also includes the Atlantic archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira, which are autonomous regions. The capital and largest city of Portúgal is Lisbon, situated on the Atlantic coast at the mouth of the Tagus River.
