Pornainen

Pornainen is a municipality located in the Uusimaa region of Southern Finland. It is situated approximately 60 kilometers northeast of the capital city, Helsinki. The municipality covers an area of 163.23 square kilometers, of which 11.97 square kilometers is water. As of the end of 2023, Pornainen had a population of around 5,500 inhabitants.

The name "Pornainen" is believed to have origins in the Finnish word "porras," meaning stairs or step, possibly referring to the terrain. Historically, the area was known for its agricultural activities, and farming continues to be a significant part of its landscape and economy, although its importance has diminished over time. The municipality is characterized by its rural setting, with forests and lakes dominating the scenery.
