Popullisë

Popullisë is the Albanian term for population, referring to the total number of people living in a defined geographic area, such as a country, region, city, or the world. The concept also includes the composition and spatial distribution of people. In Albanian usage, the form popullisë appears in phrases such as popullisë së vendit, meaning the population of the country.

Measurements and indicators of popullisë include population size, density (the number of people per square kilometer), and distribution, as well as age structure, sex ratio, fertility rate, life expectancy, mortality, and net migration. Data are collected through censuses and population registers and are supplemented by surveys and statistical models. International organizations, such as the United Nations and the World Bank, publish estimates and projections, while national statistical offices maintain country-specific data.

Demographic dynamics describe how popullisë changes over time. Population size grows or declines due to births, deaths, and migration. Many regions undergo a demographic transition, moving from historically high fertility and mortality toward lower levels of both, which can lead to slower growth or stabilization. Urbanization, aging, and migration influence labor markets, health care needs, housing, and infrastructure planning.
