Poolittomat
Poolittomat is a Finnish term used to describe a specific type of wooden log construction. It refers to buildings or structures where the logs are not interlocked at the corners with the traditional notch or dovetail joints. Instead, the logs are typically laid flat and then fastened together using metal dowels or bolts driven through pre-drilled holes. This method results in a simpler and often faster construction process compared to conventional log building techniques. The visible end grain of the logs at the corners is a characteristic feature of poolittomat construction. While it may not offer the same inherent structural stability or insulation properties as tightly interlocked logs, poolittomat is a recognized method for constructing various types of wooden structures, including saunas, sheds, and even smaller residential buildings. The term's literal translation can be understood as "without notches" or "un-notched," directly indicating the absence of traditional corner joinery.
