Ponaric

Ponaric is a city in the fictional realm of Eldara, serving as the capital of Eldara Province and a regional transportation hub. It lies in a sheltered river valley along the Ponaric River, with the Felstone Mountains to the north. Founded in the 11th century by agrarian communities, Ponaric developed as a trading town due to river traffic and its proximity to a major overland route. The city received its charter in the 14th century and grew with the construction of stone bridges and town walls. The 19th century brought industrialization, expanding textiles and glass production and linking Ponaric to other regions by rail.

Today, about 120,000 people live in Ponaric. The population is diverse, with Ponari as the predominant language alongside a regional lingua franca. The economy centers on logistics, manufacturing, and services, with tourism focused on historic architecture and the riverfront.

Governance is provided by a city council led by a mayor. Ponaric hosts regional government offices and several higher-education institutions, including Ponaric University. Cultural life centers on the Market Square, which hosts a weekly market, and the Ember Festival in late autumn. Notable landmarks include the Old Bridge, the City Museum, and the Cathedral of St. Aurelia.

Transport includes a regional rail link, river ferry services, and a city tram system. The city is also known for its craft industries, particularly textiles and glassware.
