Polaarimuotoon refers to the polar form of a complex number. A complex number, typically expressed in rectangular form as z = a + bi, where 'a' is the real part and 'b' is the imaginary part, can also be represented in polar coordinates. This representation is particularly useful in understanding the magnitude and direction of the complex number.

The polar form of a complex number z is given by z = r(cos θ + i sin θ), where 'r' is the modulus (or magnitude) of the complex number, and 'θ' is the argument (or angle) it makes with the positive real axis in the complex plane. The modulus 'r' is calculated as the square root of the sum of the squares of the real and imaginary parts: r = sqrt(a^2 + b^2). The argument 'θ' is typically found using the arctangent function, taking into account the quadrant of the complex number: θ = arctan(b/a). Care must be taken to determine the correct angle, as the arctangent function can return values in the range of -π/2 to π/2, and the argument of a complex number can range from -π to π.

The polar form simplifies many operations involving complex numbers, such as multiplication, division, and exponentiation. For instance, multiplying two complex numbers in polar form involves multiplying their moduli and adding their arguments. This makes the polar form a powerful tool in fields like electrical engineering, signal processing, and physics. The representation can also be written more compactly using Euler's formula as z = r * e^(iθ).
