Pneumatiikan

Pneumatiikka is a Finnish term that translates to "pneumatics" in English. Pneumatics is a branch of engineering that makes use of gas, usually compressed air, to transmit power or information. It is a widely used technology in various industrial and commercial applications due to its simplicity, reliability, and safety.

The fundamental principle of pneumatics involves using compressed air to perform work. An air compressor generates compressed air, which is then stored in a reservoir. This compressed air is then channeled through a system of pipes, hoses, and valves to actuators, such as cylinders or motors. When a valve is opened, the compressed air flows to the actuator, causing it to move and perform a task. For example, in an automated factory, pneumatic cylinders can be used to move objects along a conveyor belt or to operate robotic arms.

Pneumatic systems are known for their clean operation, as any leakage of air is harmless. They are also relatively inexpensive to maintain and can operate in harsh environments where hydraulic or electrical systems might fail. However, pneumatic systems can be noisy, and the compressibility of air can lead to less precise movements compared to hydraulic systems. Despite these limitations, pneumatics remains a vital technology in automation, manufacturing, and even in medical devices like dental drills.
