Pinevilles

Pinevilles is a town and civil township in the Pine Belt region, located along the Pine River. The community covers about 12.8 square miles and has a temperate climate with four distinct seasons. The population was 7,412 at the 2020 census.

Pinevilles was founded in the 1830s by settlers attracted to timber and water power. It grew during the 19th century around sawmills and a railroad spur completed in 1883, and it was incorporated as a town in 1852. The river enabled early industry and trade.

Since the mid-20th century the timber industry declined, and the local economy now relies on services, light manufacturing, and outdoor recreation. The town is governed by a mayor and a six-member council. It is served by County Road 7 and a freight rail line that runs through the western edge of town.

Pinevilles Public School District operates Pinevilles Elementary, Pinevilles Middle, and Pinevilles High School. The district serves about 1,900 students. Local life centers on the annual Pine Festival, farmers markets, and the Pine River Trail, with several parks and historic buildings listed on a local heritage registry.
