Pilipino

Pilipino is a term used to refer to citizens and residents of the Philippines. It is also used to describe things or elements that are Filipino in origin or character, such as Filipino food, Filipino culture, or the Filipino language. The term "Pilipino" is derived from the Spanish word "Filipino," which in turn comes from "Felipe," referring to King Philip II of Spain. The spelling with "P" instead of "F" was adopted in the 1970s as part of a nationalist effort to use a spelling that reflected indigenous Filipino phonetics. However, both "Filipino" and "Pilipino" are widely understood and used.
