Pildivõimendustoru

Pildivõimendustoru, also known as an image intensifier tube, is an electronic device that brightens a faint image to make it visible. It works by amplifying the light photons that strike its input surface. When photons hit a photocathode, they release electrons. These electrons are then accelerated and multiplied within the tube, creating a much larger number of electrons. Finally, these multiplied electrons strike a fluorescent screen, producing a brighter image than the original.

These tubes are crucial in applications where light levels are low, such as in night vision devices, medical imaging equipment like X-ray intensifiers, and scientific instruments for astronomical observation. The amplification process allows for the detection and viewing of images that would otherwise be too dim to see. Different types of image intensifier tubes exist, varying in their gain, resolution, and spectral sensitivity, catering to specific technological needs.
