Piauí

Piauí is a state located in the northeastern region of Brazil. It is bordered by the states of Ceará to the north, Pernambuco and Bahia to the south, Maranhão to the west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The state capital is Teresina, which is the only state capital in the Northeast that is not located on the coast. Piauí is known for its diverse geography, ranging from semi-arid caatinga in the interior to coastal wetlands.

The economy of Piauí is primarily based on agriculture, with significant production of soybeans, corn, and cotton. Cattle ranching is also a major activity. Historically, Piauí played a role in Brazil's colonial past, with early settlements and involvement in cattle raising. The region became a distinct captaincy in the 18th century. The state's culture is a blend of indigenous, African, and European influences, reflected in its music, dance, and cuisine. Piauí's population is concentrated in its urban centers, with Teresina being the largest city.
