Phishingsafe

Phishingsafe is a free browser extension designed to help protect users from phishing attacks. Developed by the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG), it aims to identify and block fraudulent websites that attempt to steal sensitive personal information. The extension works by comparing the URL of the website a user is visiting against a constantly updated database of known phishing sites.

When a user navigates to a URL that matches an entry in the database, Phishingsafe will display a warning to the user, preventing them from proceeding to the potentially malicious site. This proactive approach is intended to stop users before they inadvertently provide login credentials, credit card numbers, or other personal data to attackers. The extension is available for various web browsers, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome. Its effectiveness relies on the timely reporting and addition of new phishing URLs to the APWG's database. Users are encouraged to report suspected phishing sites to contribute to the ongoing maintenance of the Phishingsafe database.
