Perandorisë

Perandorisë is the Albanian term used to refer to an empire, understood as a large political unit in which sovereignty rests in a central authority that governs over diverse territories and populations. Empires typically exhibit centralized administration, a standing military, and imperial ideology that seeks to project power beyond the borders of a single city-state or kingdom. The concept covers both historical polities and modern uses of imperial power in discourse.

Linguistic note: In Albanian, perandori denotes the ruler, while perandorisë functions as the noun form describing the empire or imperial system. The term reflects long-standing contact with Latin-based legal and political vocabulary through Romance languages and, over centuries, with neighboring languages, resulting in a stable nomenclature for large-scale political formations.

Historically, Albanian scholarship describes empires such as the Roman and Byzantine polities, the Ottoman realm, and, in modern times, empires in European and global contexts.
