Parlementairen
Parlementairen is a Dutch term referring to members of a parliament. In the Netherlands, this specifically denotes a member of the Staten-Generaal, which is the bicameral Dutch legislature. The Staten-Generaal consists of the Eerste Kamer (First Chamber) and the Tweede Kamer (Second Chamber). Members of the Tweede Kamer are directly elected by the people through a system of proportional representation. They are responsible for proposing, amending, and voting on legislation, as well as scrutinizing the government. Members of the Eerste Kamer, on the other hand, are indirectly elected by the provincial councils. Their primary role is to review legislation passed by the Tweede Kamer, often with a focus on its constitutional and legal implications. The term "parlementairen" encompasses individuals serving in both chambers of the Dutch parliament.
