Pariaman

Pariaman is a regency located in the province of West Sumatra, Indonesia. It is situated on the southwestern coast of Sumatra, facing the Indian Ocean. The regency covers an area of 1,062.95 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 194,286 people, as of the 2020 census.

The regency's name "Pariaman" is derived from the local dialect, with ''pari'' meaning " capable or skilled" and ''aman'' meaning "peaceful". This refers to the history of the area as a strategic and secure location, which was once the chosen place for trading and cultural exchange between local tribes and foreign traders.

Pariaman is predominantly Muslim and has a strong religious heritage. The Regent's complex and the traditional market are prominent landmarks in the area. The Koto Baru mosque and Darul Falah mosque are also notable structures.

Economically, Pariaman is driven mainly by the productive sectors of agriculture, livestock farming and trade. A significant portion of the local revenue comes from export commodities such as cocoa, rubber, and spices. The primary industries in Pariaman are timber processing and fish processing, with attractions such as waterfall viewpoints and beaches located along the coast.

Administratively, Pariaman is divided into eight sub-districts: Tambo Ulu, Pariaman Tengah Utara, Pariaman Tengah Selatan, Sungai Embiliang, Lintau, Kecamatan Lebong Kidul, Kasang, and Pandai Sikek.
