Paraidotoluene

Paraidotoluene is a chemical compound, specifically an organic isomer of toluene. Its chemical formula is C8H10. It is one of the three isomers of dimethylbenzene, commonly known as xylenes. Paraidotoluene is characterized by the arrangement of its methyl groups, which are positioned at opposite ends of the benzene ring, hence the "para" designation. This specific arrangement distinguishes it from its isomers, ortho-xylene and meta-xylene.

The oxidation of paraidotoluene yields PTA. It can also be used as a solvent in certain industrial applications. Due to its role in PTA production, paraidotoluene is an important commodity in the petrochemical industry. It is obtained from petroleum refining processes, typically as a component of mixed xylene streams.
