Paraboliantennien

Paraboliantennien, often translated as parabolic antenna or dish antenna, is a type of radio antenna that uses a parabolic reflector to direct radio waves. The reflector is a curved surface shaped like a paraboloid. This shape has the unique property that all parallel rays striking its surface are reflected towards a single point, known as the focal point. Conversely, any electromagnetic radiation originating from the focal point is reflected outwards in a parallel beam.

This focusing capability makes parabolic antennas highly directional and efficient. They are used to transmit and receive radio waves over long distances, as the focused beam minimizes signal loss and interference from other directions. The size of the parabolic dish determines the antenna's gain and beamwidth. Larger dishes generally provide higher gain and a narrower beam.

Parabolic antennas are widely employed in various applications, including satellite communication, radio astronomy, radar systems, and microwave telecommunications. In satellite dishes, the LNB (Low-Noise Block downconverter) is typically placed at the focal point to capture the reflected signals from a satellite. Their ability to concentrate energy makes them essential for many modern communication technologies.
