Panorchida
Panorchida is a genus of small to medium-sized, freshwater fish belonging to the family Cyprinidae, which includes minnows and carps. The genus is native to the Indomalayan realm, with species found in rivers and streams across Southeast Asia, including countries such as India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Thailand. Panorchida species are typically characterized by their elongated, cylindrical bodies, which can range in color from olive-green to brown, with darker spots or bars along their sides. They possess a single dorsal fin, a single anal fin, and a pair of pectoral fins, with the anal fin typically being longer than the dorsal fin. Panorchida species are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of aquatic insects, small crustaceans, and plant material. They are of minor importance to local fisheries but are sometimes caught as bycatch. The genus includes several species, with the most well-known being Panorchis cotoneaster, which is found in the Brahmaputra River basin in Bangladesh and India. Panorchida species are not considered threatened, but their populations may be impacted by habitat degradation and pollution. Further research is needed to better understand the ecology and conservation status of this genus.
