Pandiyars

The Pandiyars were a Tamil dynasty that ruled parts of southern India, particularly in the present-day Tamil Nadu region, from the 6th to the 13th century CE. They are often considered the first major Tamil dynasty and are known for their significant contributions to Tamil literature, art, and architecture. The Pandiyars are believed to have originated from the Pandya country, which is now part of the state of Tamil Nadu.

The earliest known Pandiya ruler was Kadungon, who is said to have ruled around the 6th century CE. The Pandiyars reached the height of their power during the reign of Maravarman Avanisulamani, who ruled in the 7th century. Under his rule, the Pandiyars expanded their territory and established a strong central administration. The Pandiyars were known for their patronage of Tamil literature and art, and many of the great Tamil works, such as the Silappadikaram and the Manimekalai, were composed during their reign.

The Pandiyars were eventually overthrown by the Cholas in the 13th century, but their legacy continued to influence Tamil culture and society. The Pandiyars are remembered for their contributions to Tamil literature, art, and architecture, and their rule is considered a golden age in Tamil history.
