Palmitoyyliryhmä, also known as the palmitoyl group, is a fatty acyl group derived from palmitic acid. Palmitic acid is a saturated fatty acid with a 16-carbon chain. When palmitic acid attaches to another molecule, it loses a hydrogen atom from its carboxyl group, forming the palmitoyl group. This attachment typically occurs through an ester linkage or an amide linkage.

In biological systems, the palmitoyyliryhmä plays a crucial role in protein modification. This process, known as palmitoylation, involves the covalent attachment of a palmitoyl group to cysteine residues within a protein.
