Paketreselagen

Paketreselagen, often translated as the Package Travel Act, is a Swedish law that governs package holidays. It aims to protect consumers who book travel arrangements that include at least two different travel services, such as transportation and accommodation, sold for a total price. The law specifies the information that must be provided to consumers before booking, including details about the destination, accommodation, transportation, and any included services.

A key provision of Paketreselagen is the requirement for the organizer of the package tour to provide security for the money paid by the consumer. This security ensures that consumers will be reimbursed if the organizer becomes insolvent and cannot fulfill their obligations. The law also outlines the traveler's rights in case of non-performance or defects in the package holiday. This includes the right to a price reduction, compensation for damages, or termination of the contract if the deviation from the agreed-upon terms is significant.

Furthermore, Paketreselagen details the procedure for handling complaints and disputes. It establishes that consumers should first complain to the organizer, and if a resolution cannot be reached, they can turn to the National Board for Consumer Disputes (Allmänna reklamationsnämnden) for an independent assessment. The law is based on an EU directive and aims to harmonize consumer protection across member states regarding package travel.
