Painolevyns

Painolevyns is a term that refers to a type of printing plate used in lithography. These plates are typically made of a thin, flexible metal, such as aluminum or polyester, coated with a light-sensitive emulsion. The process of creating an image on a painolevyns involves exposing the plate to a light source through a film or a digital file. Areas of the emulsion that are exposed to light undergo a chemical change, becoming either receptive or repellent to ink, depending on the specific type of emulsion used.

Once the image is developed on the plate, it is ready for printing. In lithography, the principle relies on the mutual repulsion of oil and water. The inked image adheres to the ink-receptive areas of the plate, while the non-image areas, which are typically treated to attract water, repel the ink. Dampening the plate with water before inking ensures that ink only adheres to the image areas. The inked plate is then pressed against a rubber blanket, which transfers the image to the paper. Painolevyns have largely replaced the older stone lithography method due to their lighter weight, flexibility, and ease of handling and storage. They are widely used in commercial printing for producing posters, books, and packaging.
