Paineistuspisteestä, often translated as "pressurization point" or "pressurization level," refers to the altitude at which an aircraft's cabin begins to be pressurized to a higher atmospheric pressure than the ambient air outside the aircraft. This process is crucial for passenger comfort and safety during high-altitude flights.

As an aircraft ascends, the external atmospheric pressure decreases significantly. This lower pressure can cause discomfort, ear pain, and oxygen deprivation for passengers and crew. To counteract this, aircraft are equipped with a pressurization system that maintains a controlled, higher internal cabin pressure.

The pressurization system typically begins to actively increase cabin pressure once the aircraft reaches a predetermined altitude, known as the pressurization point. Below this altitude, the cabin pressure is allowed to decrease in sync with the outside air pressure, as the ambient pressure is still sufficient for comfortable breathing. Above the pressurization point, the system works to keep the cabin pressure at a level equivalent to a much lower altitude, typically between 6,000 and 8,000 feet.

This controlled internal pressure ensures that passengers and crew can breathe comfortably and avoid the physiological effects of hypoxia. The exact pressurization point can vary depending on the aircraft type, its operating altitude, and the design of its pressurization system. Modern aircraft maintain a carefully regulated cabin environment throughout the flight, with the pressurization point being a key parameter in this process.
