PRINCE2 is a process-based method for effective project management. The name PRINCE2 is an acronym for Projects IN Controlled Environments, version 2. The method was developed by the UK government in 1996 as a successor to PRINCE and has since become a globally recognized standard.

The core of PRINCE2 lies in its seven principles, seven themes, and seven processes. The principles are the guiding obligations that determine whether a project is managed using PRINCE2. These include continued business justification, learn from experience, defined roles and responsibilities, manage by stages, manage by exception, focus on products, and tailor to suit the project environment. The seven themes are aspects of project management that must be addressed continuously throughout the project lifecycle. These are business case, organization, quality, plans, risk, change, and progress. Finally, the seven processes describe the step-by-step activities that are performed during the project, from starting up a project to closing it.

PRINCE2 emphasizes clear roles and responsibilities, ensuring that everyone involved in the project knows what is expected of them. It promotes regular review and control, allowing for early identification and management of issues. The method is designed to be flexible and adaptable, enabling project managers to tailor it to the specific needs of their projects.
