PHF

PHF stands for Professional Women's Hockey Federation, a professional women's ice hockey league in North America. It traces its roots to the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), established in 2015. The NWHL rebranded as the PHF in 2020 to reflect changes in governance and a commitment to professional status for players. The league featured several teams based primarily in the United States with participation from Canadian franchises and competed for the Isobel Cup, the championship trophy.

The PHF sought to advance the professionalization of women’s hockey through standardized contracts, player salaries, and enhanced media coverage and sponsorships. It aimed to provide regular-season play, postseason competition, and development opportunities for players, coaches, and staff, contributing to the growth and visibility of women’s hockey.

In 2023, the PHF announced a transition that transitioned its teams into a new framework, the six-team Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL), which began play in 2024. The PHF branding and operations were absorbed into the PWHL, which continues to serve as the primary professional platform for women’s ice hockey in North America.
