PAK2

PAK2, also known as p21-activated kinase 2, is a serine/threonine kinase that belongs to the p21-activated kinase (PAK) family. These kinases are crucial regulators of the actin cytoskeleton and play significant roles in cell morphology, motility, and survival. PAK2 is activated by the small GTPases Rac1 and Cdc42. Upon activation, PAK2 phosphorylates a variety of downstream targets, influencing cellular processes such as cell adhesion, cell spreading, and cell division.

The gene encoding PAK2 is located on human chromosome 20. PAK2 is expressed in numerous tissues and cell types. Its activity is tightly regulated, and dysregulation of PAK2 has been implicated in various diseases, including cancer and neurological disorders. In cancer, PAK2 can promote tumor cell invasion and metastasis by remodeling the actin cytoskeleton and influencing cell migration. It has also been linked to resistance to chemotherapy.
