Põlevus

Põlevus is an Estonian term that translates to combustibility or flammability in English. It refers to the ability of a substance to burn or ignite in the presence of an oxidant, typically oxygen, and a source of ignition. The degree of põlevus varies significantly between different materials, ranging from highly flammable substances that ignite easily and burn rapidly to materials that are difficult to ignite and burn slowly, or not at all under normal conditions.

Several factors influence a material's põlevus. These include the chemical composition of the substance, its physical state (solid, liquid, or gas), its moisture content, and the surrounding environmental conditions such as temperature, pressure, and the concentration of the oxidant. For instance, fine powders or vapors of flammable liquids generally exhibit higher põlevus than their bulk counterparts.
