Põlevgaasid

Põlevgaasid, also known as flammable gases or combustible gases, are gases that can easily ignite and burn in the presence of an oxidant, typically oxygen. These gases are characterized by their low ignition energy and rapid combustion. Common examples of põlevgaasid include natural gas, propane, butane, hydrogen, and acetylene.

The combustion of põlevgaasid releases heat and light, and depending on the gas and the conditions, can also produce byproducts like carbon dioxide and water vapor. In some cases, incomplete combustion can lead to the formation of dangerous substances such as carbon monoxide. The flammability of a gas is often described by its flammability limits, which define the range of concentrations in air where ignition can occur. Below the lower flammability limit, the mixture is too lean to burn, and above the upper flammability limit, it is too rich.

Põlevgaasid have numerous applications in various industries and domestic settings. They are widely used as fuels for heating, cooking, and electricity generation. In industry, they are employed in welding, cutting, and as chemical feedstocks. Due to their inherent risks, the storage, handling, and use of põlevgaasid require strict safety measures to prevent accidents such as fires and explosions. This includes proper ventilation, leak detection, and the use of flame arrestors.
