Outenikwa

Outenikwa is a mountain range located in the Western Cape province of South Africa, forming part of the larger Cape Fold Mountains. The name "Outenikwa" is believed to be derived from the Khoisan word meaning "place of much honey" or "place of the Outeniqua people." This region is characterized by its rugged, undulating terrain, covered in diverse fynbos vegetation, a shrubland biome unique to the southwestern part of South Africa.

The Outenikwa Mountains are a significant geographical feature, influencing the climate and biodiversity of the surrounding areas. They act as a barrier, contributing to the distinct microclimates found on either side. The range is known for its dramatic landscapes, including steep slopes, deep valleys, and occasional waterfalls.
