Otherbodiedness
Otherbodiedness is a concept in philosophy and psychology that refers to the experience of perceiving one's own body as separate from oneself. This phenomenon can occur in various contexts, including out-of-body experiences (OBEs), near-death experiences (NDEs), and certain forms of dissociative disorders. In OBEs, individuals may feel as though their consciousness is detached from their physical body, often observing it from an external perspective. NDEs, typically experienced during cardiac arrest or near-death situations, can also involve a sense of otherbodiedness, where the individual feels separated from their physical body and may observe their surroundings from a different perspective. Dissociative disorders, such as depersonalization-derealization disorder, can also lead to otherbodiedness, where individuals may feel disconnected from their physical body and experience a sense of detachment from their own thoughts and emotions. The experience of otherbodiedness can vary widely in intensity and duration, and its underlying mechanisms remain a subject of ongoing research in psychology and neuroscience.
