Orrüregi

Orrüregi refers to the nasal cavity, the large air space inside the nose. It is lined with mucous membranes that help to warm, moisten, and filter the air we breathe. The nasal cavity is divided into two passages by the nasal septum, a wall of cartilage and bone.

Within the nasal cavity are three bony projections called turbinates on each side. These turbinates increase the surface area of the nasal lining, allowing for more efficient conditioning of inhaled air. Tiny hairs called cilia line the nasal cavity, and they beat in a coordinated rhythm to move mucus and trapped particles towards the throat, where they can be swallowed or expelled.

The nasal cavity plays a crucial role in our sense of smell. Olfactory receptors, located in the upper part of the nasal cavity, detect airborne molecules and send signals to the brain, allowing us to perceive different odors. It also contributes to voice resonance and protects the lower respiratory tract from inhaled irritants. Infections or inflammation of the nasal cavity can lead to conditions like sinusitis or rhinitis.
