Orientierungslage refers to a person's state of being oriented in terms of time, place, and person. It is a crucial aspect of cognitive function assessed during medical examinations, particularly in neurological and psychiatric evaluations. A person is considered fully oriented if they can accurately state the current date, their location, and their own identity. Disorientation can manifest in various ways and can be a symptom of numerous underlying conditions.

Disorientation in time may involve confusion about the day, date, month, or year. Temporal disorientation can range from a slight misremembering of the time of day to a complete inability to grasp the passage of time. Spatial disorientation, or disorientation in place, involves a lack of awareness of one's surroundings. Finally, disorientation in person refers to a failure to recognize oneself or others. This can manifest as not knowing one's own name or mistaking familiar individuals for strangers.
