In physics, for example, the magnetic susceptibility of a material can be orientation-dependent, meaning it will respond differently to a magnetic field depending on the direction of the field relative to the material's internal structure. Similarly, in crystallography, the mechanical strength of a crystal can vary with its orientation due to the arrangement of atoms within its lattice.

In biology, the behavior of certain organisms can be orientation-dependent. For instance, some insects navigate by sensing the polarization of sunlight, and their flight paths are therefore dependent on the orientation of the polarized light relative to their desired direction of travel.
