Oppisisältö

Oppisisältö refers to the content that students are expected to learn within a given subject and grade level in Finnish education. It includes knowledge, skills, and attitudes that constitute the learning goals for a course or curriculum area. The content is organized around subjects such as language, mathematics, sciences, arts, and social studies, and may also address cross-curricular themes.

In Finland, oppisisältö is defined in national and local curriculum documents. The national core curriculum sets the overall aims and the minimum content that all municipalities must cover, while local curricula allow schools to adapt the content to their context. The core curriculum emphasizes core competencies, such as critical thinking, learning to learn, collaboration, and digital literacy. Content is typically expressed as learning goals or objectives and content areas for each subject.

Practically, teachers select specific teaching materials and learning experiences to realize the oppisisältö during the school year. Textbooks, digital resources, and project work are used to deliver the content. Assessment measures progress toward the learning goals and informs instruction, differentiation, and support for diverse learners.

This framework supports inclusive education and lifelong learning, and it forms the basis for planning, teaching, and evaluation in basic education (peruskoulu) and upper secondary education (lukio) in Finland. The term can also apply to the content of teaching materials used to implement the curriculum.
