Olulisemalt

Olulisemalt is an Estonian adverb meaning “more importantly” or “more significantly.” It is used to foreground a point of greater importance within a statement or argument. The form is a compound of the adjective oluline (important), the comparative suffix -em- yielding olulisem, and the adverbial suffix -alt, giving olulisemalt. It corresponds to the English phrase “more importantly” and often functions as a discourse marker.

In usage, olulisemalt signals that the following claim should be given greater weight than other considerations. It can introduce a sentence: “Olulisemalt tuleb märkida, et andmed pärinevad sõltumatutest allikatest.” It can also appear mid-sentence to emphasize a subsequent clause: “Uuring näitas paranemist, olulisemalt pikaajaline mõju tuleb hinnata.” The register is typically formal or written; in everyday speech speakers may prefer simpler emphasis such as “see on oluline” or “pealegi.”
