Olonen

Olonen is a small, uninhabited island located in the Gulf of Finland, part of Estonia. It is situated south of the larger island of Naissaar and is approximately 1.2 kilometers long and 0.5 kilometers wide at its widest point. The island's terrain is generally flat, characterized by rocky shores and sparse vegetation, primarily consisting of low bushes and grass.

Historically, Olonen has seen limited human activity. Its strategic location has led to some past military interest, particularly during the Soviet era when coastal fortifications were present in the vicinity. However, it has never been permanently inhabited. Today, Olonen is part of the Naissaar Nature Reserve, a protected area aimed at preserving the natural environment and biodiversity of the region. The island serves as a habitat for various bird species, and its surrounding waters are important for marine life. Access to Olonen is restricted to protect its fragile ecosystem, and it is not a tourist destination. The island remains largely untouched, a testament to the natural coastal landscapes found in the Baltic Sea.
