Olesky

Olesky is a small rural locality situated in western Ukraine, within the administrative boundaries of Lviv Oblast. The settlement falls under the jurisdiction of Lviv Raion and is part of the local hromada (community) of Rava-Ruska. Olesky is positioned at an elevation of approximately 200 meters above sea level and is accessible by regional road networks that connect it to nearby villages and the city of Lviv.

The village’s population has fluctuated over the past decades, with estimates ranging from 150 to 200 residents in the early 2000s to a more recent figure of around 170 inhabitants. The demographic composition is largely homogeneous, with Ukrainians comprising the majority and a small number of residents belonging to minority ethnic groups.

Olesky's history dates back to at least the 17th century, when it was established as a small agricultural community. Throughout its history, it has been part of various administrative units—from the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, through the Austrian and Russian Empires, to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, and finally independent Ukraine after 1991. The village is known for its wooden church, built in the 19th century, which serves as a local landmark and place of worship for residents.

The local economy is predominantly agrarian, with most inhabitants engaged in crop cultivation and livestock breeding. Small-scale forestry also contributes to the village’s economic activities. Olesky maintains a primary school and a community center that host cultural events and serve as gathering places for residents. The settlement’s cultural life reflects traditional western Ukrainian customs, including folk music and seasonal festivals tied to the agricultural calendar.
