Oleskelulakkortin is the biometric residence permit card issued in Finland to prove a non-Finnish resident’s legal right to stay in the country. The card accompanies the residence permit decision and serves as a key identity document for the holder during their stay in Finland.

The card contains the holder’s personal data, including name, date of birth, nationality, and a personal identity code, as well as information about the type and conditions of the residence permit and the permit’s validity period. It includes a photograph and a machine-readable zone, and may store biometric data such as fingerprints in a secure chip.

Use of the card is to provide a primary proof of the right to reside and to facilitate access to services such as work, health care, banking, and housing. It is typically used together with a passport for identity checks and, in some situations, for travel within or outside the Schengen Area. It is not typically considered a stand-alone travel document for international border crossing.

Validity and administration: The card is valid for as long as the residence permit is valid. When the permit is renewed or changed, the card is updated accordingly. If the permit is cancelled or expires, the card becomes invalid. If the card is lost or stolen, it can be replaced through the responsible authorities, usually for a fee, after reporting the loss and applying for a replacement.
