Oksüdatsioonikate refers to the oxide layer that forms on the surface of metals when they are exposed to an oxidizing environment. This layer is a product of the chemical reaction between the metal and oxygen, or other oxidizing agents. The formation of an oxide layer is a common process for many metals, including iron, aluminum, copper, and titanium. The properties of the oxide layer can vary significantly depending on the specific metal and the environmental conditions.

In some cases, the oxide layer acts as a protective barrier, preventing further oxidation of the underlying metal. This is known as passivation. For example, aluminum forms a thin, tough, and adherent layer of aluminum oxide (alumina) that protects it from corrosion.
