Okklusiivsed

Okklusiivsed, also known as plosives, are a class of consonants in phonetics that are produced by obstructing the airflow in the vocal tract and then releasing it suddenly. This obstruction is typically made by bringing two speech organs together, such as the lips or the tongue and the roof of the mouth. The release of the built-up air pressure creates a distinct popping sound.

The production of an okklusiivne involves three main stages: closure, where the airflow is stopped; release, where the obstruction is removed; and aspiration, which is a brief puff of air that may follow the release, particularly in voiceless plosives. The place of articulation refers to where in the vocal tract the obstruction occurs. Common places of articulation for okklusiivsed include the lips (bilabial), the alveolar ridge (alveolar), and the velum (velar).

Okklusiivsed can also be distinguished by their voicing. Voiced okklusiivsed are produced with vibration of the vocal cords, while voiceless okklusiivsed are produced without vocal cord vibration. For example, in English, /p/ is a voiceless bilabial okklusiivne, while /b/ is its voiced counterpart. Similarly, /t/ and /d/ are alveolar okklusiivsed, and /k/ and /g/ are velar okklusiivsed. These sounds are fundamental building blocks of many languages, playing a crucial role in distinguishing word meanings.
