Okemos
Okemos is an unincorporated community and census-designated place located in Meridian Township, Ingham County, Michigan. It is situated just east of the state capital, Lansing. The area was named by Elias W. Lyon, who, upon learning of a Native American chief named Okemos, decided to name the settlement after him. The chief's name is believed to have originated from an Ojibwa word meaning "little warrior."
