Objektiiviliitteillä

Objektiiviliitteillä, often translated as object complements or objective complements, is a grammatical concept found in some languages, particularly in Finnish. It refers to a word or phrase that follows a direct object and describes or renames it. This complement provides additional information about the state or identity of the direct object after a verb has acted upon it.

The function of an objektiiviliite is to complete the meaning of the verb and its direct object. For example, in Finnish, a verb like "tehdä" (to make) can be followed by a direct object and then an objektiiviliite. If someone makes a person happy, "happy" would be the objektiiviliite describing the state of the person (the direct object). These complements can often be adjectives, nouns, or even participles. They are distinct from predicative complements, which follow linking verbs and describe the subject of the sentence. The identification and analysis of objektiiviliitteillä are important for understanding the complex sentence structures in languages that employ them, impacting translation and linguistic analysis.
