OLG

OLG stands for Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. It is a Crown agency of the Government of Ontario, responsible for overseeing lottery and gaming operations in the province. The agency was established in 2000 to manage provincial lottery, casino gaming, and related activities, with the aim of generating revenue for the provincial government and supporting public services.

OLG administers and funds a wide range of lottery games including Lotto 6/49, Ontario 49, Daily Grand, and Pro-Line sports betting. It maintains a large network of authorized retailers and operates online gaming services through OLG.ca. In addition to lotteries, OLG oversees gaming facilities operated under private-sector partnerships, including casinos and slot facilities at racetracks, under regulatory supervision; it works with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) to license, regulate, and enforce standards.

The agency is governed by a board of directors appointed by the government. A CEO, reporting to the Minister of Finance, leads day-to-day operations. OLG's mandate includes responsible gambling initiatives, player protection, and charitable gaming programs, with revenues directed toward public programs such as health, education, and community initiatives.

In recent years, Ontario has pursued gaming modernization, expanding online gaming under iGaming Ontario and refining the balance between government-operated and private-sector gaming. OLG continues to adapt its operations to technological change, consumer demand, and regulatory updates while maintaining a state-supported framework for gaming in the province.
