Näkökulmatasot

Näkökulmatasot is a Finnish term that translates to "perspective planes" or "viewing planes" in English. In the context of art and design, it refers to the conceptual or actual surfaces upon which a viewer's perspective is based. These planes help artists and designers organize and represent three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional surface, such as a drawing or a painting.

Different types of näkökulmatasot can be identified. The horizontal näkökulmataso, often referred to as the eye-level or horizon line, represents the viewer's eye level. Objects above this line appear to descend, and objects below it appear to ascend in the artwork. The vertical näkökulmataso encompasses the vertical lines within the composition, which typically recede towards vanishing points. The frontal näkökulmataso, also known as the picture plane or canvas, is the actual flat surface on which the artwork is created. The artist projects the three-dimensional world onto this plane.
