Nyelik
Nyelik is a traditional ritual of the Nyeli people, a fictional ethnic group in the continental region of Atara. The term, from the Nyeli language, roughly translates to the vigil or the waiting. Nyelik marks the first full moon after the harvest and serves as a ceremony of remembrance, mutual aid, and social renewal. The ritual is led by an elder or ritual leader known as the Nyeli, assisted by a choir and a small ensemble of wind and percussion instruments. Core elements include a nighttime procession, the lighting of torches, and the offering of symbolic gifts to ancestors and spirits of the land. A central feature is the recitation of a mythic cycle and the performance of a song set to drums and reed flutes; participants wear textiles dyed with plant-based colors.
Regional variants exist: coastal Nyelit communities emphasize water imagery and offerings to sea ancestors, while highland
Contemporary practice: Some villages maintain traditional, private Nyelik; others have public festival forms that attract visitors.
