Novogodinji

Novogodinji is a town and municipality in the northern region of Valorenia, a fictional country. It lies at the confluence of the Mirova and Bjel rivers and covers about 42 square kilometers. As of 2022, the population was around 7,800. The town serves as the administrative center of the municipality and is known for its compact historic core and riverfront promenades.

The area experiences a temperate climate with four distinct seasons. The surrounding countryside features rolling hills, farmland, and mixed woodland, supporting long-standing agricultural and forestry activity.

Founded in the 13th century as a fortress and market settlement, Novogodinji grew around trade routes linking the highlands to the coast. It later passed through several rulers before joining the unified Valorenian state in the 19th century. The town expanded during the industrial era with timber processing and textile workshops and was affected by a major flood in 1963.

Today the economy combines agriculture, light manufacturing, and services. Apple orchards and dairy farming supply local producers, while small wood products and textiles remain important. Tourism centered on the historic core and river landscapes also contributes.

Notable landmarks include Saint Mary Church dating from the 15th century and the Old Town Gate. The town hosts the annual Novogodinji Festival with folk music, crafts, and a riverside market. The local library preserves regional archives and hosts cultural programming.

The population is predominantly Valorenian, with minority Montellan and Riveran communities. The primary language is Valorenian; Montellan is taught in schools as a second language.
